I appreciate the opportunity to serve as Community Service Director for the 2006-2007 Rotary year. The following are planned activities as we Lead the Way during the next year:
* AIDS/Education Awareness
We will participate in AIDS Awareness through the Fayette County School System and other clubs.
We will work with the Fayette Daybreak Rotary Club to sponsor a fire safety program through Bright Star Learning, Inc. entitled “Buzzly & His Tree House Buddies”. Our sponsorship would provide funds to be used to provide safety educational products to fire departments to distribute to daycares, libraries, and elementary schools in our area.
* CART Program
We will continue to raise funds to support Alzheimer’s Research through donating
pocket change at each club meeting.
* Environmental Issues
We will continue to monitor environmental issues and have programs aimed at
educating members about concerns for our geographic area. We will respond
to any concern that is identified during the year as needing the clubs expertise and
intervention.
We will participate in a Flint River Clean Up Day.
We will participate in an “Adopt a Mile” quarterly. We will partner with a local Boy Scout troup to pick up trash.
* Poverty/Hunger Issues
We will continue to collect food for the needy at holidays and throughout the year
as necessary for distribution through the Fayette Samaritans Emergency Food
Bank.
* Annual Christmas Community Gifts Meeting
We will sponsor our annual Christmas Community Gifts program.
Additionally, there will be two major fundraisers that will not only support the Fayetteville Club projects, but other club projects as well. They are as follows:
1. An Annual Golf Tournament that we will co-host with the Fayette Daybreak Rotary
2. An Annual Sporting Clays Tournament
We will seek out ideas from committee members on a project that we can initiate this rotary year and be continued with our successors.
We should have a great and exciting year. I look forward to working with everyone.
Sincerely,
Cathy Cochran
